" Ben Roethlisberger will apparently be staying with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a long time to come.

ESPN.com reported Monday that the Pro Bowl quarterback has agreed an eight-year contract worth $102 million, a deal that would make Roethlisberger one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
"

  Ummmmm...wow.

This is great news for Steelers fans. We have a solid QB for almost the next decade. He deserves the money, and I'm glad they ponied it up.

I'll gladly take this deal over signing Faneca back. Roethlisberger is the core of our franchise, so now we can build around him.

It is great to see that the "Second Coming of Terry Bradshaw" is getting treated better than the Original.....I just hope we can afford to put a team around him now with this contract.......How many "re-do's" of his contract are the Steelers gonna have to do to keep themselves under the cap in future years......But I am glad Big Ben is getting paid, and apparently is gonna be a Steeler til the end of his career.......

Good news... glad to see that the Steelers won't have to worry about that in the future. They also signed a free agent running back from Minnesota Vikings ...Mewelde Moore.
8 years... $102 Million. with $36 Mil in guarantees...
One thing to remember is how it is sturctured... is it back end heavy? And when you consider that the cap is almost always increased from year to year...
NOW they have to go out there and get some big boys to put out there in front of him to keep him from getting SACKED so much, or he won't last 8 years!

The Ben signing was GREAT! As I predicted this year, Ben would have a resurgence year. It just didn't seem right that his career would continue on like his performance last year - everyone knew he was better than that. He's a smart guy and he works hard... Two things that destined him to play in Black and Gold for a long time. Hopefully he'll be our second Hall-of-Fame QB that was drafted here, and retired here.

The Moore signing is nice. Was the 8-year deal for Moore?! I hope not. A two or three year deal would've been much better in my mind for a third down back. Moore was never able to crack the lineup when he was looked to as a feature back in Minnesota, but I think he can find a nice niche here in Pittsburgh as the "thunder" to Parker's "lightning". Lame analogy, I know, but... it just makes so much sense!

Edit: nevermind, the 8yr/$102m. was Ben's contract. If anyone can find the Moore contract, go ahead and post it here and we'll keep that discussion on this one.

The Moore contract was three years. Don't know the specifics on monitary value

Also, just wanted to point out that the guys on ESPN's PTI pointed out that Ben's record through his first four years is better than Peyton Manning's. Haven't found the numbers to prove it yet (and I don't feel like going through each season to do the math just now), but I'll let you know if I do.

Something that I think is being forgotten by some that are upset that the STEELERS didn't keep Faneca, is the fact that Allen Faneca was very vocal about being upset that Pittsburgh hired Tomlin as head coach, not Russ Grimm. There could be that aspect that was involved in that situation. Maybe he carried that resentment with him into the regular season. That could make for a conflict of personalities. Maybe it wasn't just about the money.

Possibly. But money was one of the first things he mentioned before the season began. I remember him pointing out that he wasn't one of the top paid linemen in the league.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing: he was one of the premier linemen in the league, and he probably deserved a raise. I guess he got it...
