The Steelers came to contract terms today with their top two draft picks and will have all their picks signed to contracts when they open training camp Sunday in Latrobe.
Running back Rashard Mendenhall, the team's first-round draft choice, came to terms on a five-year deal. Wide receiver Limas Sweed, their second-round choice, agreed to a four-year contract.
Mendenhall will sign for five years at $12.55 million. He will receive bonuses as part of that contract worth $6.83 million. Contract terms for Sweed were not immediately available."

The article in its entirety above.
I like the contract that Rashard got, 5yr/12.55 with some bonuses on top that adds 50% more value to his contract based on performance. Very nice. The Steelers won't get stuck with a complete lemon if he doesn't work out, and Rashard doesn't get stuck with a crap contract if he happens to break out and be an NFL star.
As for Sweed I like the contract length for sure, but no numbers have been tossed out. Being as conservative as they are, I doubt the numbers will be anything out of the ordinary for the Steelers, so I'm sure I'll have no qualms about it.
Regardless, these two guys seem like a couple cornerstones to our future, so it's good to see that they're signed.
Now it'd be great to see some shut down performances from our linebackers that we drafted last year...

Pre-season is at hand... don't know how many starters we'll see in this first game though... too many are injured. But we'll be able to get a look at some of the new guys.

Indeed, it should be pretty exciting to see the rookies in the preseason.
